What my clients and editors say
Stephen Huntley, Editor, Ride On magazine, Bicycle Network Victoria
“Karen is one of our star contributors. Ultra reliable, committed and very professional, she always works hard to get a thorough understanding of our briefs, and to deliver well-written pieces, in our preferred style, ahead of deadline.”
Bron Willis, Web and Publications Team Leader, Bush Heritage Australia
“Karen Graham has provided freelance copywriting services for Bush Heritage Australia for a range of publications. Karen’s writing has helped us to engage our supporters with our vital conservation work. Storytelling is an essential part of capturing the hearts of our supporters and letting them know how critical they are to our vision and Karen understands this. Her storytelling goes to the heart of what the Australian bush means to Australians. Karen delivers copy on time and works closely with the editorial team to ensure a high-quality result.”
Kaye Fallick, Publisher, YOURLifeChoices website, magazine and enews
There are many reasons YOURLifeChoices website, enewsletters and magazine benefits from its association with Karen Graham. The main ones are that she is a great writer – both on travel and general lifestyle content – a consummate professional, a highly organised editor and a stickler for deadlines. But most of all we enjoy working with Karen because she “gets” the issues of most relevance to our members – and is always a good-humoured contributor.
Pamela Oddy, Director, The WordCare Company Pty Ltd
I first met Karen at a workshop on travel writing that we both attended in 2008. At the time I was editing the (then print and now online) magazine YOURLifeChoices, which has always had a very popular travel section. I was impressed by examples of Karen’s published work, so was delighted when she pitched a great idea for a volunteer travel article.
We accepted that, and subsequently several others of Karen’s pitches. Further, we were so confident about her work that we commissioned her to write several stories that emerged from the magazine’s brainstorming sessions, some well outside the field of travel. I left YLC after five years as editor, to concentrate on editing professional magazines. However, I know Karen is still highly valued by the YLC team, and has since been appointed editor of a magazine produced by one of their associated publishers.
Karen has always been great to work with. She has terrific ideas of her own, which she is able to shape to fit a particular magazine’s tone and emphasis if so required, and also writes well to any brief prepared on a topic nominated by an editor. She is a good interviewer and researcher, and her writing is very readable. Fortunately for any editor, her great ideas and engaging tone are underpinned by a firm grasp of grammar and punctuation, and she is an accurate and experienced proof reader.
As a bonus, Karen is also an excellent photographer, with a good understanding of what makes an eye-catching image. It has always been a pleasure to work with her and, should the opportunity arise in one of my current publications, I would not hesitate to do so again.
